Moor Green Lane Medical Centre would like to remind patients that your breast screening appointment may be due soon.
Breast screening is an important way to detect cancer early, when treatment is more likely to be successful. In the UK, 1 in 7 women will develop breast cancer during their lifetime. Attending your screening appointment could save your life.
Who is invited for breast screening
You will automatically be invited for your first breast screening between the ages of 50 and 53. You will then be invited every 3 years until your 71st birthday.
How breast screening works
Your local screening service is usually based in a hospital, but it may also take place at a mobile screening unit in your area.
Screening uses a breast X-ray called a mammogram to take images of the inside of your breasts. These images are carefully checked by specialists for any signs of abnormal changes.
Most people will not need any further tests, as no signs of breast cancer are found. However, if any changes are detected, you may be invited for further tests. Your screening service will contact you with an appointment to discuss this if needed.
If you have received an invitation, please refer to your breast screening letter for full details of your appointment.
